The Truth About Vitamins

Vitamins are essential when it comes to what you need for the body to perform at it’s highest potential. There is no other way around it. Vitamins are given the name of vitamins because they are considered “vital minerals” VITA-MINS. We are perfectly designed by our maker to have to depend on the chemical compounds, elements and substances of nature to thrive as a species. Vitamins are so important to our well- being that certain medical conditions can occur without enough of a particular type of vitamin or vitamins. The term for that occurrence is called vitamin deficiency. Vitamins energize the body while minerals stabilize the body

The Two Categories of Vitamins

Vitamins are broken down into 2 categories. Oil(Fat)-soluble(dissolves in oil) vitamins and water-soluble(dissolves in water) vitamins.

The Oil(Fat)-soluble vitamins are Vitamin A, D, E,and K. They can be dangerous at a high dose because they are stored in bodily fat, remain in the body too long and cause toxins (poison to the body). It’s the cause of hypervitaminosis (vitamin overload).

The water-soluble vitamins are Vitamin C and the B vitamins(B1,B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B12, B13). These vitamins are not stored in the body can be easily damaged by cooking, exposure to air, and exposure to light. This is why the late great Bruce Lee recommended juicing with raw fruits and vegetables.

How You Should Maximize Your Vitamin Intake

Vitamins, made from plants and/or medicinal herbs are more active than processed synthetic vitamins. I’m not completely opposed of synthetic vitamins and minerals but I would HIGHLY recommend you to use much of your efforts in consuming fruits, vegetables, plants and herbs for your vitamin intake. Better to consume raw fruits and vegetables as cooking can eliminate the good nutrients you need for optimal health.

Consider synthetic vitamins as your last option because as I learned from Dr. Llaila Afrika, certified holistic health consultant and naturopath said that they can eventually drain the body of nutrients, alter pH and body chemistry, and have a negative effect on your health. Why? Because a majority of synthetic vitamins are made from harmful chemicals(coal tar), have additives, and addicting substances(caffine, white sugar) in them.

The reason I’m not fully opposed of synthetic vitamins is that in modern day, at the peak of GMO’s, pesticides, and the soil being more contaminated everywhere altogether, a large amount of plants and herbs that are grown aren’t as potent in vitamins and minerals as they once were decades ago when our grandparents were coming up. Before purchasing any synthetic vitamins, consult with your family physician and get blood work done to see if you have any deficiencies in any of the 13 essential vitamins.

All in all, after doing a body cleanse to rid the body of toxins, the next step in ensuring that your body is getting what it needs to perform the best it can, would be to get your proper amount of vitamins.

Full Body Cleanse: The Body’s “Great Reset”

In the quest to gain as much knowledge as I can about the mind, the body, physical fitness, health and wellness, I stumbled upon a concept that is not foreign to the average ear but is generally NOT practiced by the average person.

There are various types of body cleanses that target specific organs and health issues. A few examples include: the liver cleanse, colon cleanse, kidney cleanse, full body liquid detox, and more. Many common illnesses are as a result of having an overall very polluted body.

GUT HEALTH- Where All The Parasites Dwell!

The reason why Gut Health is where I recommend you start is because it is the biggest contributor to your overall well-being. Gut Health covers multiple aspects of the gastrointestinal(GI) tract including effective digestion and absorption of nutrients from food and vitamins, absence of GI illness, normal and balanced intestinal microbiota’, effective immune response and a general optimal state of well being.

If not cleansed thoroughly and periodically, it’s highly likely your gut could be contaminated with built up toxins and even harmful parasites, worms and organisms that feed off the nutrients that you eat.

Whilst there, they will take your nutrients and can cause intestinal obstructions, often producing chronic and gradually worsening health conditions.

In children, worms can affect the normal development of the body and brain.[7] Unlike protozoa, worms do not multiply within the human body.

Glute Bridges

Purpose: To improve mobility and stability in the hips and improve core stability by activating the glute muscles.

Start Position:

  • Lie supine (On your back) with knees bent and feet placed one floor aligning knees with hips/lower waist and second toe. (a)
  • Engage core throughout the exercise. A common mistake during this exercise is an increase in lordosis/ β€œbridge” position due to lack of lumbar stability. Engaging core prevents that.

Exercise:

  • Exhale and activate glutes by elevating the hips off the floor into hip extension without lordosis or increase in bridge due to lack of core engagement.
  • Perform 2 sets of 5-10 slow and controlled repetitions per side, holding the end of each rep for 2 seconds with a 30 second rest in between sets.

Progression 1: From the starting position, gently pull and hold one knee toward the chest, tilting the pelvis posteriorly and raising the body into the bridge position.

Progression 2: Place a fitness pad under your back. This challenges the core more.

BIRD DOGS: A GREAT WAY TO ACTIVATE THE CORE.

Bird dogs are one of the most effective fundamental exercises there is when it come to activating the core and abdominal muscles that help improve stability. It also strengthens glutes, hips and lower back muscles, promotes confident posture and increases range of motion

How to do Bird dogs

Step 1: Assume quadrupled (all fours) position with knees directly under hips and wrists right under the shoulders. Maintain neutral spine.

Step 2: Elevate 1 arm 1/2 inch off the floor and perform slow controlled movements with that arm. (Extending arms too far too soon may result in loss of stability or forced hip and shoulder rotation due to lack of mobility) Ultimately, you want to be able to extend limbs to align with your neutral spine

Step 3: Perform 1-2 sets of 10-15 reps with a 2 second tempo

Progression #1: Just like the original except elevate 1 knee 1/2 of a inch off of the floor instead of an arm and perform same controlled movements.

Progression#2: Elevate contralateral limbs 1/2-1 inch off of the floor and perform same controlled movements.

If you have poor core strength and stability, I recommend doing these twice a day for 2 weeks-1 month to witness improvement in core stability. Always keep this exercise in your arsenal! It’s a bread and butter exercise that will help you maintain core activation and will assist you in balance as well as assist in performing exercises which you will need an activated core to perform!
